Simple moves create a dynamic carved box.
new build / 3,200 sq. ft.
The Spicewood residence is designed to balance the client’s modernist ideals within a reasonable budget, while maximizing steep topography through multilevel indoor-outdoor living. The front facade feels relatively private, tucked into the hillside; the rear is covered in large windows opening the home to dramatic sunrise viewing. Finishes are simple but textural, within a neutral cool color palette—a minimal material palette was essential to control cost. Space planning is centered around the large living and kitchen space. Private quarters are tucked away from the communal living area, separated by formal dining area and staircase. A three-level terraced back patio offers several entertaining vignettes, including a pool deck and fire pit.
