The Downtown Garbo’s Lobster project involves the revitalization of the iconic and historically significant Counter Café building located at Lamar and 6th in Austin. This historic site had fallen into disrepair, having been vacated and used as a ghost kitchen during the COVID-19 pandemic. The interior space is quite compact, measuring approximately 720 square feet, and the existing infrastructure was so out of date that we had to replace it in place to meet modern standards and gain necessary approvals. Originally beginning as a food truck, the size of the space didn’t intimidate the team. Our goal was to achieve a quick turnaround, allowing for the restaurant to open as soon as possible. Client engagement is a cornerstone of our approach, with a strong emphasis on partnership in decision-making and design. We are thrilled to have been able to work on this venture with a women-owned and led restaurant group and bring this historic gem back to life.
